DIRECTIVE CONCERNING "CERTAIN
LEGAL ASPECTS OF INFORMATION SOCIETY SERVICES, IN PARTICULAR
ELECTRONIC COMMERCE, IN THE INTERNAL MARKET"
The Directive 2000/31/EC of 8 june 2000 on "certain
legal aspects of information society services, in particular
electronic commerce, in the internal market", adopted
on 8 June 2000, contains a section on the liability of information
society service providers regarding illegal content circulating
on the networks. This regulation is of vital importance
for rightholders given the growing and alarming phenomenon
of pirated works disseminated by the Internet. GESAC promptly
expressed concern about the general principle of exemption
of liability for operators provided for in the Directive.
